Taking work very seriously seemed to be equated with art at that time. this sketch was the result of working overtime resulting often enough to have the finances to afford having a variety of cars, but no spare time to repair or enjoy them. Sometimes, I felt an emptiness and separation of reality during my labors indicated by the partial exclusion and incompletion of the skull at the top of the head of this self-portrait. The funnel and balls represent the interacting communications, orders and commands that were received and the dialogue between the employees that took place during work. The base resembled a light bulb which symbolized us as lighting technicians when we worked on Dragnet for Jack Webb!
